My First Roll of Kodak ColorPlus 200

It’s always important to try something new.

I think I’ve reached the point in my film photography journey where I have more or less settled on what works for me. I’m fortunate to own excellent examples of Nikon F camera bodies and lenses, and I put them to good use as much as I can. And after having tried out several different types of film, I also have a good idea of what enables me achieve my creative goals. I gravitate to slower black and white films, and I tend to prefer using Ilford FP4 Plus in particular.

But every now and again, it’s nice to shake things up a bit. Just like you can get into a creative rut, you can also unnecessarily box yourself in by saying to yourself, “I know what I like.” Sometimes what you’re actually saying is, “I like what I know.”

Having received my first roll of Kodak ColorPlus 200 back from the developer and scanning the negatives, I was surprised to see how pleasing my results were.

My gratitude goes out to J.R. Smith, whose generosity enabled me to experience what I had been missing out on all this time. In a nutshell, I found Kodak ColorPlus 200 to offer pleasing colors without going overboard on saturation like other consumer-grade color negative films can sometimes do. More broadly, I found myself rethinking my aversion to color film.
