Kentmere Pan 400 Price Increases

Late last month, I noticed that my supply of Kentmere Pan 400 was starting to get a little low. I try to keep several rolls of the stuff on hand, and it became apparent to me that it was time for me to place an order for more.
I hopped onto the internet and was rather surprised to see that, insofar as the listing on B&H Photo Video’s website was concerned, the price for a 35mm 36-exposure roll of Kentmere Pan 400 had risen to $8.99!
Seeing that made me wonder about how much the going price for Kentmere Pan 400 had been in past years. I went back through my orders with a couple of retailers for the answer:
- $4.50 (Blue Moon Camera and Machine, August 17, 2020).
- $5.49 (B&H Photo Video, December 28, 2022).
- $6.50 (B&H Photo Video, February 7, 2024).
- $6.99 (Blue Moon Camera and Machine, December 10, 2024).
- $7.49 (B&H Photo Video, March 29, 2025).
- $7.95 (B&H Photo Video, May 8, 2025).
- $7.99 (B&H Photo Video, October 24, 2025).
This past June, when I placed my most recent order with B&H for Kentmere Pan 400, the price had remained steady at $7.99 per roll.
Just a moment ago when I sat down to write this post, I checked B&H’s website again saw that, oddly, the price had fallen from $8.99 to $8.49. I’m not quite sure about the reason for the slight price drop.
I also see that Blue Moon’s listing shows they’re still charging $7.99 per roll. I imagine they have stock they acquired at the wholesaler’s old price.
Although I’m thankful for the recent 50¢ decrease on B&H’s website, there’s a good part of me that’s a little dismayed to see that something which had cost less than $5.00 not terribly long ago was now knocking on $10.00’s door. Little by little, year after year, that price had just kept edging up. What had felt like an easygoing film to shoot with is now starting to feel somewhat dearer.
I suppose I really shouldn’t be surprised at the price increase considering that many other things seem to be getting more and more expensive. It was just one of those little wake-up moments for me.
